Addictive Behaviours Program
Addiction is not being able to stop doing something even if you want to, and despite the negative consequences it creates. Addiction applies to alcohol and other drugs, and is inclusive of gambling, eating, gaming, exercise, sex, social media and other behaviours.
Who is the program for?
This program is suitable for individuals who have a desire to quit but have not been able to do so on their own.
Please note that a review of medical detoxification needs will be undertaken prior to the commencement of participation in the program.
How will it help me?
This program will help participants gain clarity and insight into the underlying reasons they developed an addiction by focusing on the behavioural and psychological underlying factors.
In addition, the program aims to participants to:
- Develop action plans that assist well-being and reduce the impact of addiction
- Develop coping strategies
- Enhance personal control
- Increase awareness and management of thoughts and feelings
- Inspire the capacity to manage issues of addiction
- Seek clarification of personal values.
Participants will learn about the stages of change and what motivates their change, and learn to take responsibility for their recovery. They will be provided with a safe and supportive environment setting in which to develop skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal communication, relapse prevention and managing urges and cravings.
When does the program run?
The Addictive Bahaviours Program runs on an ongoing basis.
Admission to the Inpatient Rehabilitation Program is for 28 days.
This program offers individual and group based programs that aim to address understanding self, addiction and mental health.
How do I access the program?
Admission to an Inpatient Program requires a referral from a Geelong Clinic accredited psychiatrist.
Your GP can refer you for an initial consultation by addressing a referral to ‘Dear Doctor’, or to one of our accredited psychiatrists.
Your referral should be faxed to Intake on 03 5240 0799.
Patients will be booked in for an assessment prior to acceptance for admission.

How much does it cost?
All referrals are subject to a health fund check prior to admission or commencing a program.
Your inpatient stay is generally covered by private health insurance or by Workcover, DVA and TAC. Self-funding is also an option.
